Subsequently, the syntax of the OOER Language (OOERL) is utilized informally as a data definition (DDL) and manipulation language (DML). An objectrelational database (ORD), or objectrelational database management system (ORDBMS), is a database management system (DBMS) similar to a relational database, but with an object-oriented database model: objects, classes and inheritance are directly supported in database schemas and in the query language. In doing so, the Object-Oriented Entity-Relationship Model (OOERM) is used as an object-oriented analysis and conceptual design tool. The purpose of this study is to explain and demonstrate the entire logical customer order entry database design (especially, from the manufacturing perspective) based on the core object-oriented database model features (e.g., object, object identity, attributes, methods, encapsulation and message passing, class, class hierarchy and inheritance, and some semantic relationships among objects). Object-oriented database systems began developing in the mid-80’s out of a necessity to meet the requirements of applications beyond the data processing applications which were are served by relational database systems. Therefore, in order to design structural and behavioral characteristics of the entire customer order entry database effectively, a superior database model, such as an object-oriented database model, should be used as a base. The purpose of the paper is to provide a guideline for database instructors who desire to incorporate the ORDB technology in their traditional database courses. However, for any kind of application, the object-oriented database technology has been proposed as a powerful alternative database technology over the traditional (hierarchical, network, and relational) technologies and semantic database models regarding the database design and application capabilities of its features. This paper introduces how to use the object-relational database management system (ORDBMS) to solve relational database (RDB) problems in an advanced database course. Object-oriented programming languages, such as Smalltalk, Common Lisp Object System, and C++, pro- vide rich data abstraction capabilities. A contrast between OODBs and RDBs is also presented. Conventionally, like the other systems of the manufacturing resource planning information system, customer order entry databases have also been developed under the traditional database technologies. Object Oriented Databases OOAD Fall 2012 Arjun Gopalakrishna Bhavya Udayashankar Executive Summary The presentation on Object Oriented Databases gives a basic introduction to the concepts governing OODBs and looks at its details including its architecture, the query languages used etc.
